Small costs add up
Find the subscriptions and fees that quietly eat your paycheck.
A $10 charge doesn’t feel like much. But $10 a month is $120 a year. Five of those is $600.
Look for the quiet charges
Get your last two bank or card statements. Look for things that come every month or every year:
- Streaming, music, and gaming services
- Apps and cloud storage
- Gym or club memberships
- Shopping memberships
- Bank fees, like monthly account fees or Overdraft feeA fee your bank may charge when you spend more than what's in your account and the bank covers the difference.More in the glossary
Decide what stays
For each one, ask: Did I use this last month? Would I miss it? You don’t have to cancel everything. Keep the ones you love, and cut the ones you forgot about.
Before you cancel, check whether there’s a cheaper plan. Some services offer a plan with ads, a student plan, or a discount for people with lower incomes.
Watch out for free trials
Many free trials turn into paid subscriptions on their own. When you sign up, set a phone reminder to cancel a day or two before the trial ends.
